The Race Director 2016
The Race Director 2016 is now available!
To get started with Race Director 2016, please renew your annual support subscription now. Use the Buy Now option found under the Purchase menu at the Race Director website. Once the page loads, use the "Annual Support / Other Options" purchase type and select the appropriate support plan based on the number of races you are scoring annually.
2016 Improvements Summary
There are many significant improvements in RD 2016 including:
- New Partners. Race Director has added Trident to the list of supported chip systems. Integrations have also been built to online registration systems imAthlete, MyLaps, Race Entry, Race Roster, and Direct Athletics.
- Participant Update. Added a browse button to enable viewing and updating participant data in a grid. Created the ability to search by bib number and name and to sort the grid by any column.
- Cross Country Announcer. Added a new version of the Announcer screen. The left side of the screen shows the finish list and the right side shows team scores. Team scores are updated with each finisher.
- 2015 Age Graded Factors. Updated Race Director to use the latest 2015 factors. Made major changes in the tracking of age grade percentage. The assignment of the distance-based factors is now done directly on the Division setup screen. The age grade factor, percentage and net time are now calculated and saved for each participant each time the calculation process fires. You can select any of these fields in Report Line Definitions or as exported data. There is a new setting on the Overall Results report to include the age grade percent as a column on this report.
Detailed Enhancement List

o Cross Country. Added a new, elaborate integration with TFRRS (DirectAthletics) to auto-publish to their site as you score the race.
o Participant Update. Added a browse button to enable viewing and updating participant data in a grid. Created the ability to search by bib number and name and to sort the grid by any column.
o Run Sign Up Integration. Added capabilities around publishing to the RSU Announcer screen. Added an edit to the RSU participant data upload to check the counts of registrations at in each system and report a problem if there are obviously more registrations at RSU than RD is showing. Added team name as a column in the results sets - enabled for either standard teams or team relay. Added some additional editing to insure there is a group team number for each relay team entered at RSU. Added options to the RSU participant imports and uploads to allow the choice for whether or not chip code is interfaced. Enhanced to include "Offline Payment" as the amount paid in RD when an amount is available from this source. Implemented a way to assign multiple RSU Group Types in the same RSU Event across multiple Divisions in RD. Added the ability to import Corporate teams as Standard Teams in Race Director. Improved this process to include importing newly assigned relay members at RSU, uploading new assigned relay team members in RD and integrating team name changes from either system. Added a logic to the upload to handle the new RSU duplicate participant checking processes. Added a checking process to the RSU participant import looking for removed/transferred participants at RSU. These will be reported and also removed/transferred in RD. Added processes to allow the mapping of RSU Corrals to RD Wave Groups.

o Cross Country. Added the ability to score through a specified split point on a multiple segment race.
o Series Report. Added the ability to link participants across races by bib number instead of participant ID.
o Series Report. Added the ability to show only through a specific age group place on the Age Group report. o Series Report. Added the option of showing Relay Team Name for race series where the divisions selected at team relay divisions.
o Detail Team Report. Corrected a bug in showing the time column in races where segment definitions vary by division.
o Chip Start / Finish Times report. Updated to work correctly when segment definitions vary by division.
o Overall Results Report. Enhanced the HTML reports to have an automatic hyperlink to the other division and gender sections within the report.
o List Reports. Added the option for a column for Registration Date.
o Participant Data Import Reports. Adjusted Age / DOB discrepancy report to not report on missing age when age is calculated from BD.
o Chip Start / Finish Report. Added a new option for getting a list of start times only.
o Age Group / Overall Results Report. Added City as a column choice for all Overall and Age Group HTML reports - no matter how many splits there are.
o Standard Team Reports. Added the ability to show relay team name on the standard team reports - for races where you have teams of relay teams.
o Team Relay. Added USAT number as a column to the Pre-race Team Relay report - HTML and Spreadsheet versions.
o Team Packet Report. Added gender as a sort within teams and the ability to have a page break when the gender changes. Useful for cross country where the girls coach may be different than the boys coach.
o Deductions Report. Added an HTML and Spreadsheet option for this report. Added the ability to show results by sequenced by deduction count in addition to net time.
o Lap Results Report. Added a page break when the gender changes on the Overall Summary (when by-gender is selected).
o Prior Year Results. Added a new report to show top finishers by division and gender across multiple years for the same race. Useful for determining record holders at the division level by gender.
o Chip Results Import. Added a column for gender in the grid and switched the column for showing division from showing the division number to showing the division name.
o Time Shift. A new button has been added to the chip results import screen allowing you to set a time shift increment or decrement by timing point. Useful for situations where the readers are not in sync with the time of day.
o RFID Imports. When importing a chip results file that was produced from RFID Outreach, the import will reference the Race Director bib/chip assignments to see if there is an assignment for the transponder code coming from the reader.
o Chip Results Import. Changed where Timing Point is set on Chip Results import screen. In a better place now so that other settings would be accidentally set.
o Chip Results Import. Updated the process for showing age group results counts to showing this information in a grid and then giving the option to print the award count report.
o Chip Read Alerts. Added the ability to preset participants that you would like to see an alert prompt for when a chip result is read. This is maintained in Tailor -> Options on the Chip System tab and can be set by timing point and occurrence.
o IPICO Direct. Enhancement to allow auto-save of reads to a specified folder and file.
o Start Time Import. Added a setting to allow participants whose final start read is still before the gun time to show has having a zero value start time.
o PC Timer. Added Winning Time to the Timer screen when creating a "chip read" output file.
o PC Timer. Added integration with the IPICO Registration Reader. Useful for low volume time recording such as individual pool starts in a kids triathlon.
o Lap Races. Simplified the import process to no longer prompt you each time for the source of the data.
o Chip Read Filtering. For IPICO, My Laps and RFID where there is a date stamp in the results data, a new check has been added looking for reads that are prior to the race date. When encountered, you are asked if you want these times ignored. Useful for times when you forget to clear the readers before the race. This check happens even when you have the setting for date checking turned off in the chip system setup.
o Lap Results Import. To streamline the import process, several "information only" prompts have been removed.
o Pull Tag Races. Added a Publish Live Results button to Enter Results -> Adjustments for pull tag races. o ChronTrack Live. When in "Live Mode", removed the prompt you need to respond to and put the acknowledgment in the update message at the bottom of the screen. Change the single bib transfer process to also update CT Live.
o CT Live. Switched back the CT Live Race / RD Division assignment process to showing a grid of CT Live Races on the left so that you can assign the RD Division on the right. This allows you to establish the same RD Division to multiple CT Live Races.
o CT Live Participant Uploads. Changed the "Edit Participant" process on the chip results import screen to immediately make the same change at RSU or CT Live for races in Live Mode with these partners.
o RSU Results. Added the ability to clear results - primarily for when you want to get rid of results from testing cycles.
o RSU Results. Added new calls to insure that "Preliminary Results" setting for RSU gets updated when the setting updates in RD.
o RSU Results. Enabled double dipping at the top finisher level in addition to double dipping for age groups. Implemented a change so that the time (chip / clock) shown in RSU division lists is in sync with how the race is configured in RD.
o RSU Results. Added the ability to express pace per KM in races where distance is set in KM.
o RSU Results. Added the ability to send RD Linked Division results to RSU as RSU result divisions.
o Auto RSU Event Switches. Modified the Divsion Crossover and results publishing to recongize when RD divisions have been changed, but the RSU Event switch has not. When sensed, you're given a prompt asking if you want the RSU Event transfers to happen automatically.
o Results Kiosks. Corrected a bug related to setting which splits show in races where the segment definition varies by division.
o Results Kiosks. Added the capability of pulling both participant data and results from Run Sign Up for races using Race Director Go.
o USAT Extract. Changed the USAT GRU output to include split times.
o GRU Data Creation. Opened up the ability to create GRU data from the chip results screen to all races where results are not published to other results engines.
o GRU Uploads. Modified the GRU Upload found on the chip results import screen to allow for specifying your own file name. This is done on the Event Setup screen found off Tailor -> Divisions.
o GRU Uploads. Added Age Graded Percentage as a column for races where you've defined an Age Graded factor table in Tailor -> Divisions.
o Emergency Contact Info. Created standard fields on the RD participant file for this information so that you no longer need to burn up optional data fields for this purpose.
o Participant Data Updates. Added a process to the end of the import process for participant data changes to re-calibrate the age group the participant is in. This insures that the participant is in the correct age group if their age or gender is what has changed.
o Participant Transfers. Updated the Crossover button in Tailor -> Divisions to allow transferring the participants from one division to another or from a bib number range to a specific division.
o Dynamic Bib Assignment. Major enhancement using RSU to help coordinate bib numbers between all kiosk computers. Documented completely in RD Help.
o Swap / Transfer Process. Enabled Swap and Tran for "Live Mode" for CT Live and RSU.
o Team Relay. Added the ability to track USAT number by relay team member.
o Optional Data Pick Lists. Added the ability to show optional data fields as a pick list in Update -> Participants. Valid values for the pick lists are defined in Tailor -> Options.
o Participant Swaps. Added an Import button to the participant swap screen. The import expects a two column CSV file containing a row for each pair of bib numbers to be swapped.
Import / Export
o Participant Data Imports. Added the ability to specify "Division Name" as column mapping choice. When selected, there is a prompt with a grid where you map the division names coming from the spreadsheet to the RD division names
o Participant Data Imports. Added a "Map From Headers" button for spreadsheet with a header row. If the header description matched exactly to a Race Director mapping choice (First Name, Last Name, etc), the mapping is automatic.
o Participant Data Imports. New option added to the participant import screen for when there are age and birth date discrepancies in the imported data. The new setting gives you an additional option for when there is an imported age of zero or a birth date with the current year as the birth year.
o Participant Data Imports. Changed to ask if the imported reg-id is the actual RSU or CT Live reg-id when the race is established as RSU or CT Live.
o Participant Data Imports. Enhanced the participant data import process to better deal with updating participants set up as "unassigned" from the chip results process.
o Race It Imports. Correction to properly suggest next available bib number.
o Participant Data Import. Added a report to show duplicates encountered in the import.
o Participant Data Import. Corrected a problem when importing T-shirt sizes as changes. The cross reference file was not getting referenced properly.
o Participant Data Changes Import. Improved the "Process as Changes" participant import to do the reverse T-Shirt code lookup from the description.
o Participant Data Import. Enhanced the import process to set up separate teams with the same name when here are multiple classifications.
o Exported Results Data. Modified the participant data export process to calculate a chip time for top finishers in races where top finishers are scored by gun time.
o Exported Time Data. Added a setting on the System Tab in Tailor -> Options to force exported times that are under an hour to be formatted to include a zero hour instead of showing only minutes and seconds. This makes importing this sort of data into Excel work better.
o 6+ Segment Races. Added the ability to specify pace parameters by segment.
o Age Group Record Holders. Added the ability in the re-calibration process to skip up to three different years when resetting age group record holders across all years for a given race. Useful for scenarios where there was a one year course adjustment.
o Team Maintenance. Added a "Transfer" button which enables you to transfer everyone on one team to another team.
o Common First Names. Replaced the prompts you get for each participant imported with a suspicious gender based on the common first names you have established with a report you can print at the end of the import. Added a "Check Gender" to the new Browse window found in Update -> Participants. This will filter the participants in the browse window to only those with a potential gender problem. Gender changes can be made directly in this browse window.
o Top Finishers. A new approach is provided for races where top finishers are assigned without regard to gender.
Labels / Email
o Chip Stickers. Added ability to select multiple bib ranges when producing Chip Stickers and Bar Code labels.
o Email Creation. Added Total Distance as substitution parameter for emails sent for lap races.
o Labels. Created an easy way to filter the list of custom labels descriptions based on a keyword you provide.
o Announcer Screen. Added a setting to the Lap Result version of the Announcer screen where you can specify that the initial read is a start read, not the first lap time.
o Announcer Screen. Updated to show both the person finishing and the name of the relay team when all on the team have their own chip code.
o Announcer Screen. Changed the maximum number of lines to display when in Projection Mode from 20 to 55 lines for Lap Races. This matches the maximum allowed on the Announcer Screen for standard races. o Announcer Screen. Added a "Catch Up" button to the standard Announcer screen. This will allow for re-establishing a link to a chip mat and catching up the data on the announcer screen from results posted in Enter Results -> Chip Results.
o Zip Code Calibration Process. Added a way to disable the zip code calibration check - for situations where the Internet connection is weak.
o Bib Assignment Process. Added RSU Import as a means of assigning the RD bib number. o Bib Assignment Process. Added the ability to assign bib numbers by wave group.
o Bib Assignment Process. Added a setting for grouping linked divisions as a single division when renumbering.
